A painted portrait of Hel, the Norse Goddess.
Hel is the Queen Goddess of the underworld in Norse Mythology. In appearance she is said to be a fearsome sight: She is described as having a face half-human and half blank, or more usually, half alive and half dead. It is told that when Hel was born, disease first came into the world.
Note: Sorry for the crap resolution...I'll upload a better one once I find my actual camera or get my scanner up and running.
